Welcome to course MPT2 – Mission Makeover: Lose Weight and Keep It Off. In this 8-week online course, students will develop a personal weight-loss program by responding to various textbook and hands-on activities. The key to this course is keeping an honest and accurate weight-loss journal to chronicle starting issues (such as beginning weight), progress, setbacks, triumphs, and final results.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 33 percent of U.S. adults are overweight and an additional 36 percent are obese (APA). Losing weight is as much psychological as it is physical (). Research is clear that people who write down what they eat in a daily log are more successful at losing weight (APA).
“Absent a medical condition that is causing weight gain or obstructing weight loss, the ‘secret’ to losing weight is to live a lifestyle that has you ingest fewer calories than you burn” (David Niose).
Students will also use the weight-loss journal to record thoughts, feelings and information about their environment. This will help them understand their eating habits and identify underlying problems (APA).
The course curriculum helps students effectively share their story to provide personal fulfilment. After completing this course, students should be able to provide a professional writing portfolio with a strong foundation for autobiography. Students will interact effectively with their peers in the online community.
